These boots are made for walkin'
Footwear has appeared in my life twice already this week, and it's only Monday, so what better blog subject could there be? It's fate.
Today, I discussed with a friend about footwear and how it makes her feel. She said, " In trainers I'm myself. In shoes I'm very professional. I'm ready to work in safety boots and in my Timberland boots, I'm smart casual but trying to conform. She also went on to tell me about an interview with Sir Alec Guinness, who said he could only get into his role when he was wearing appropriate shoes.
It got me thinking, living in the mountains, my footwear has changed dramatically. When I was in the travel industry, I used to wear medium heels. At the police station it was Doc Martin shoes. Here in Italy, it's crocs or flip flops in the summer, and at this time of year, its warm thermal pumps in the house and boots are my outdoor choice — smart ones for going to the shops and eating out and walking boots for ....well....walking.
Am I the same person?
I am, but shoes help me play a part. Thinking about it, I do feel differently depending on my footwear; I even did an Instagram post about it a few years ago.
What was the second occurrence of footwear related interest?
Karaoke.... now things are settling down, and we've all had our boosters, we can get out and about a lot more. Yesterday saw the first Karaoke session this year...all 6 hours of it. Lunch turned into quite an affair. It's been so long since we've been allowed to enjoy singing, and we certainly made up for it. But what has Karaoke got to do with footwear? One of my new songs by Nancy Sinatra, and the title of this blog post, These Boots Are Made for Walkin'.....I did the dance too!
That's a huge advantage of living in the mountains with very few neighbours; you can turn the music up and sing to your heart's content.
An article on HealthLine showed that singing could be good for you on many levels. It can help lower stress, boost immunity and lung function, enhance memory, improve mental health, and help you cope with physical and emotional pain. One of the best things about singing is that you don't have to be good at it to reap the rewards. I prove that!
You know I'm always advocating self-care and doing the things you love; what better than a bit of singing, whether you're any good or not. You might not be able to spend six hours at it if you have neighbours, but there's always the shower!
